NHTSA "Drug Recognition Expert" (DRE) Training Overview:

The most current NHTSA DRE Training Curriculum at the time of the course will be used
This training course is taught by a former certified DRE Instructor-Trainer who has actually trained law enforcement officers in the NHTSA DRE student course and DRE instructor course.
Areas to be covered: Interpreting Blood & Urine Toxicology Results, Trial Techniques & Tips in DRE Case, The 12 Step Process in a DRE evaluation, Interpreting a DRE Face Sheet and Narrative, The 7 DRE Drug Categories, Drug Combinations & Their Effects, The Drug Symptomology Chart, Examination of Vital Signs, The 4 Psychophysical Tests during a DRE Evaluation, The 4 Eye Exams during a DRE Evaluation, The Development and Validation of the DRE Program.
Participants will receive a thorough overview in the newly released 2023 NHTSA DRE Pre-School & DRE 7-Day training curriculum that officers attend nationwide. Emphasis will be made on analyzing a DRE case file, including, the DRE Face Sheet & DRE Narrative report, how to compare the two with one another and with the Drug Symptomology Chart, as well as emphasis on each specific step involved in a 12-step DRE evaluation. Time will also be spent covering the IACP’s rules and regulations that officers are required to follow in order to become certified and to recertify as a DRE.
